Carry On Luggage Rules

#

Travelling is sometimes more of a hassle than a relief from stress because of the many rules you need to follow. This, of course, includes carry-on luggage rules. Basically, carry-on luggage rules are strict rules that airlines implement regarding what baggage is being brought inside the cabins of commercial flights. When it comes to US airways, here are the general rules for carry-on luggage that you must know, especially if you travel a lot.

Carry On Luggage Rules

Size and Weight of The Luggage

Luggage has to meet certain size and weight requirements to pass as a carry-on bag. First of all, it should not exceed 45 linear inches. This means that the dimensions should be a maximum of 14 x 9 x 22 inches. Anything larger than this is no longer considered a carry-on. When it comes to weight, US airways want your luggage to be 40 pounds or below, otherwise it can’t be considered a carry-on. Bags alone are already 10 pounds more or less, not including the contents. Thus, be sure to pack only the things you need. Packing light is the trick. You can read our Baggage Size Guidelines in the US – Frequently Asked Questions for more info.

Number of Items

You must limit your carry-on luggage to one bag plus one personal item. The personal item is your handbag, shoulder bag or any kind of bag that holds your personal items like your tablet, mobile, laptop, tissue or napkins. The main luggage is already your carry-on bag, assuming that it passes the size and weight standards. Other than that, you cannot bring anything inside the cabin.

Placement Areas

US Airlines provides areas in the plane or cabin where you can place your carry-on. Basically, as long as your luggage fits on those areas, then they are considered carry-ons. You can easily tuck in your handbag or tote under your seat or just place it on top of your lap while flying.

Cargo Hold

The cargo hold is where bags that are not allowed inside the plane are placed. If you encounter gate checking or travel on another flight that is shorter, you can expect smaller overhead bins. Depending on the type of plane you’re travelling on, you might need to leave your luggage in the cargo hold.

Security

The security of US airways has a lot of restrictions when it comes to carry-on baggage. For example, you are only allowed to pack 3.4 ounces worth of liquids, so choose the toiletries you will bring carefully. Technically, these liquids you plan to bring should fit in a quart-sized zipper bag. That should serve as an easy guideline. Drinks will be served on the plane so you don’t need to bring anything to quench your thirst.

Those are the basic US airways carry-on luggage rules. Of course, some rules and restrictions may depend on specific airline companies. It’s important to inquire before your trip so you can be well-informed about them.
