Travelling is one of the best ways to relieve stress. However, travelling in itself can be very stressful sometimes because of the many guidelines people must follow when it comes to airlines protocol. This includes the rules on carry on luggage size and the like. If you are a traveler in the US, here are the basic guidelines that you should know about:
What should be the size of a luggage for it to be considered as a carry on?
First things first, you must know the dimensions of a carry on bag for it to be considered as such. It must be 22 inches long, 14 inches wide and 9 inches tall. Anything exceeding those dimensions is no longer considered as a carry on and will be stowed in the overhead bin of the airplane. The smaller the bag, the better.
Am I allowed to bring an extra bag?
Yes, you may. Aside from your carry on luggage, you may bring a tote or small bag with you. However, the sum of its dimensions including width, length and height should not exceed 36 inches in total. The basic rule for an extra bag is that it should fit under the seat in front of you. It pays to know that if you only have a personal item with you such as this bag, you can already board the plane right away.
Am I allowed to bring additional items that I need?
This is a common question for a lot of travellers. For example, mothers who need to nurse a baby may ask to bring an extra diaper bag which is totally understandable. Yes, diaper bags are allowed. Other items you may bring include coats, hats, jackets, book or newspaper, stroller or safety seat for a child, assistive devices for special passengers such as wheelchairs, oxygen tanks and the like. Food is also allowed at a minimum. Check out our ultimate guide to buy the best carry-on on the market!
